New Talent: Mary Katrantzou

Stessa età, stesse radici che sprofondano nel mare, stessa ambizione e stesso percorso nel lasciare la propria casa madre per raggiungere la città per realizzare il proprio sogno.

E’ così che voglio presentare Mary Katrantzou, perchè è così che mi sento vicina a lei.

Nata 28 anni fa ad Atene, da madre interior designer e padre ingegnere tessile, è comprensibile da dove provenga la sua fantasia e la sua arte decorativa fortemente ispirata agli arredi e all’oggettistica pregiata di una casa accogliente arredata con un gusto vintage opulento.

Eppure la giovane greca, stabilita ormai in Inghilterra, si è diplomata alla prestigiosa Central St.Martin di Londra, vincitrice di numerosi premi e riconoscimenti, é ormai famosa per aver introdotto una nuova tecnica nell’era della stampa digitale per tessuti. Veste quasi esclusivamente di nero e dopo aver superato il suo periodo grunge del total black con tanto di Dr Martens (altro punto che ci accomuna), è diventata una vera e propria icona e ormai consacrata nel novero dei più talentuosi designer degli anni zero.

Parlando delle sue stampe non si può non essere affascinati da tanta bellezza, splendide immagini su proporzioni nuove e strutturate, femminili e d’avanguardia.

I buyer dei department store più importanti del mondo fanno a gara per accapparrarsi l’esclusiva per averla tra le loro selezioni, celebrities e stylist indossano nei red carpet i suoi abiti e intanto anche Topshop e Longshamps le fanno firmare delle capsule esclusive.

I colori brillanti, nelle sue collezioni, la fanno da padrona, prendendo forma in immagini di campi fioriti, saloni da ballo anni 70, gioielli di design e carta da parati degli anni da boom economico.
Dalle sue "lampshades skirt" la maturità artistica arriva stagione dopo stagione. L'ultima collezione A/I 2012 è stata ispirata dall'Haute Couture nel periodo storico tra le due guerre, con la forte impronta della "joie de vivre" di donne coraggiose ed eclittiche come la grande Marchesa Luisa Casati, la Dafne Guinness del suo tempo.

Tutto questo è Mary Katrantzou, una giovane dai modi gentili che con caparbietà ha scalato una difficile vetta e ha saputo far emergere il suo tratto distintivo: un classico romanticismo nell’era digitale.

That’s how I want to introduce you Mary Katrantzou, because that's how I feel close to her.
Born 28 years ago in Athens by a mother who works as interior designer and textile engineer father, it is understandable where it came from her imagination and her art, decorative furnishings and decorative objects inspired by the highly prized of a cozy home decorated with a vintage opulent look.
Yet the young Greek, winner of numerous awards, now famous for having introduced a new technology in the era of digital printing for textiles, wearing almost exclusively black, and after passing her grunge period of total black with also Dr. Martens (another point that we have in common), has become a true icon and now consecrated one of the most talented designers of the year zero.
Speaking of her prints, cannot be charmed by its beauty, beautiful prints on new proportions and structured, feminine and trendy outfits.
The buyers of the world's top department stores compete to have the exclusivity of the brand, celebrities and stylists in the red carpet wearing her clothes and meanwhile also Longchamps and Topshop and make the sign exclusive of the capsules.
The bright colors make it a mistress in her collections, taking shape in images of fields of flowers, ballrooms of the 70s, jewelry designer and wallpaper from years of economic boom.
From her "lampshade skirts",the maturity comes season after season. The collection A/W 12 was inspired by the Haute Couture in the interwar period with a strong love of life given by the Italian Marchesa Luisa Casati, the Daphne Guinness of her time. This is Mary Katrantzou, a mild-mannered young woman who stubbornly climbed a difficult peak, and she was able to bring out her distinctive trait: the classic romance in the digital age.
