England e Union Jack, quando sotto la stessa bandiera pulsano diversi stili, è difficile identificarsi e capire quali sono le peculiarità che hanno portato alla nascita e allo sviluppo di un movimento musicale e di stile tanto forte da influenzare milioni di ragazzi in tutto il mondo nel giro di pochi decenni.

La fantasia galoppa quando si pensano a fenomeni socio-politici che hanno provocato rivoluzioni, prese di posizione per il senso si appartenenza di un determinato gruppo.

La musica prima di tutto e la moda di riflesso, sono da sempre stati capaci di trasmettere un messaggio ben preciso di ciò che stava accadendo nella società e nella quotidianità. Lo stile british nelle sue più disparate sfaccettature è sempre quello più avanti di tutti, quello più trasgressivo, più all'avanguardia, quello capace di travolgere intere generazioni: da quella anni cinquanta di Mary Quant e quella sixties di Twiggy, David Bailey e dei Beatles, passando per la generazione dei Mods vs Skinhead, tra le scorribande di Clash e Sex Pistols, fino alle levate danzanti di Madness e Specials e al Brit Rock di Oasis e Blur degli anni 90.

Tutti questi movimenti costantemente nel tempo, hanno subito dei revival più o meno importanti e notoriamente identificabili, ma sempre vengono ripresi e reinterpretati secondo le logiche del tempo che incontrano. Lo si vede nelle sfilate, lo si ascolta nella musica nei club, lo si vede sopra le t-shirt che indossiamo tutti i giorni.

Imbattendosi sulla sfilata SS12 del noto stilista Henry Holland di House of Holland, gli elementi di un evoluzione di uno stile come quello ska ci sono tutti. Sottolineando il concetto di "evoluzione di stile" perché è di questo che si tratta. Elementi chiave come le bretelle, la camicia abbottonata fino al primo bottone, la fantasia Check su abitini e pantaloni, la maglia, l'animalier, i golfini e le polo. Già le polo, quelle di Fred Perry, famosissime in Inghilterra soprattutto tra Mods e Ska e riportate in voga grazie a Demon Albarn e soci. Le bretelle, accessorio maschile per eccellenza, solleva le braghe anche di giovani donzelle alternative, sotto una t-shirt o una camicia super fittata e femminile. Poi ci sono i pantaloni a vita alta, super slim e arrotolati alla caviglia, i calzini sono bianchi o colorati e si indossano con mocassini da college o stringate maschili. I capelli sono da portare raccolti in chignon laterali e code ben tirate, ma per le più audaci, è meglio rasarli ai lati con ciuffi che richiamano quelli dei rockabilly.

Ecco l'evoluzione, la capacità di mixare uno stile ben preciso in un periodo storico differente per creare nuovi fenomeni culturali, come le nuove ska girls, le ribelli più snob che esistano.

Fashi-off's alphabet : U = Union Jack

Ne abbiamo viste sventolare a migliaia durante il matrimonio del secolo, i colori sono quelli del blu, del bianco e rosso. Si sta parlando della bandiera più famosa al mondo, quella del Regno Unito, chiamata amichevolmente Union Jack.

E' stata protagonista di una storia che dura secoli, bandiera di culto, portavoce di una cultura unica, conservatrice ma che tende alla stravaganza. Tratto distintivo di una società multietnica e fucina di creativi inequiparabili.

Union Jack come simbolo di stile ineguagliabile da Vivienne Westwood e gli anni d'oro del punk, a Kate Moss che celebra il suo essere British nelle testate più importanti. Fino ad Alexander McQueen.
