Fashi-Off and the Glam Rock Generation

Tendenzialmente quando si pensa agli anni ’70 vengono in mente innumerevoli eventi. Sia che si parli di eventi politici che di quelli sociologici, un pensiero va sempre anche alle mode, ai costumi d’epoca, agli anni della rivoluzione culturale che ha visto lo sviluppo di stili e movimenti senza fine. Nella fucina inventiva della città più trasgressiva del mondo -Londra- un gruppo di ragazzi insoddisfatti dei valori tradizionali pacifisti ormai inflazionati da tsunami di movimenti hippie, si ritrovano a manifestare una decadente insoddisfazione adolescenziale, senza ideologie politiche precise, con solo l’idea di una libertà totalmente permissiva nei costumi. John Lennon lo ha definito il “rock’n’roll con il rossetto”, per tutti è riconosciuto come Glam Rock. Lustrini, piume e glitter a go-go, trucco improbabile, cappelli cotonati, colori brillanti, eclettismo allo stato puro, bisessualità dichiarata sono le caratteristiche che lo differenziano dai movimenti Beat e Mod degli stessi anni. E se alcuni considerano l’ex modello Marc Bolan dei T-Rex, uno dei capostipiti del movimento, David Bowie con “Ziggy Stardust” del 1972 e Gary Glitter ne sono sicuramente il simbolo. Presenza scenica ineguagliabile, dichiarazioni esplicite di libertà sessuale saranno per Bowie il trampolino di lancio verso un successo senza fine. Forzatamente kitsch, ammiccante e profondamente edonista, celebra l’androginia pura e il culto della bellezza raccontato da Wilde nel suo “Il ritratto di Dorian Gray”. Il Glam Rock ha il compito di esprimere e raccontare l’era moderna, il futurismo come catastrofe apocalittica delle allucinazioni psichedeliche. Il Regno Unito ne ha sviluppato le sorti, gli Stati Uniti ne hanno solo accarezzato l’idea grazie a personaggi come Iggy Pop e la sua band gli Stugges, New York Dolls, Alice Cooper e i Kiss. Verso il 1975 il movimento era già in declino, nel suo DNA la sperimentazione è d’obbligo, così nascono nuovi influenze che butteranno le basi per movimenti anarchico/punk o metal degli anni successivi. Il Glam Rock è stato sicuramente uno dei movimenti più particolari sia per la storia della musica sia per quella della moda ed è per questo che ancora oggi a distanza di più di 30 anni continua ad ispirare stilisti e artisti. Come la sfilata di Jean Paul Gaultier della stagione SS11,la copertina di Vogue con Kate Moss o il video di Lady Gaga Pocker Face o la pioggia di Glitter che quest’anno si è abbattuta sulle scarpe di MiuMiu. E’ bello pensare che tutto sia così trasformista e imprevedibile, così tremendamente Rock ma così tanto Glam.

Unique stage presence, the statements of sexual freedom for Bowie will be the springboard to a successful worm. Forcibly kitsch, hedonistic and deeply alluring, pure and androgyny celebrates the cult of beauty as told by Wilde in his "The Picture of Dorian Gray." The Glam Rock has the task to express and talk about the modern era, how futurism apocalyptic catastrophe of psychedelic hallucinations. The United Kingdom has developed lots, the United States have only toyed with the idea thanks to the likes of Iggy Pop and his band the Stugges, New York Dolls, Alice Cooper and Kiss. By 1975 the movement was already in decline, the motion of DNA testing is a must, so giving rise to new influences that will throw the basis for the anarchist movement / punk or metal for the following years. The Glam Rock was definitely one of the most particular movements in the history of music and fashion and that is why even today after more than 30 years continues to inspire designers and artists. As the fashion show by Jean Paul Gaultier's SS11 season, as the cover of Vogue with Kate Moss or the video of Lady Gaga Poker Face or Glitter rain has fallen this year on MiuMiu shoes. It's nice to think that everything is so unpredictable and changeable, so terribly Rock. but so much Glam.

Fashi-off's alphabet : U = Union Jack

Ne abbiamo viste sventolare a migliaia durante il matrimonio del secolo, i colori sono quelli del blu, del bianco e rosso. Si sta parlando della bandiera più famosa al mondo, quella del Regno Unito, chiamata amichevolmente Union Jack.

E' stata protagonista di una storia che dura secoli, bandiera di culto, portavoce di una cultura unica, conservatrice ma che tende alla stravaganza. Tratto distintivo di una società multietnica e fucina di creativi inequiparabili.

Union Jack come simbolo di stile ineguagliabile da Vivienne Westwood e gli anni d'oro del punk, a Kate Moss che celebra il suo essere British nelle testate più importanti. Fino ad Alexander McQueen.
