Fashi-off's alphabet : S = Savage Beauty

Chi ha avuto l’opportunità, anche solo per una volta, di ammirare un suo abito, non può non dichiarare che lui sia stato uno dei più grandi artisti contemporanei.

Non è un fotografo, nè uno scultore, nè un pittore, nè un architetto. E’ un creatore di sogni che di mestiere faceva lo stilista: il genio Alexander McQueen.

Ma che cos’è “Savage Beauty”??

E’ il titolo di una mostra importantissima dedicata alle sue spettacolari opere, che dal 4 Maggio al 31 Luglio sarà di scena al Metropolitan Museum di New York.

Il lavoro di Mcqueen è stato un tripudio di emozioni contrastanti, di concetti sociali intrisi di sentimenti dicotomici e ambigui. La visione e il mondo onirico intriso di inquietudine, sono gli elementi principali della sua opera grandiosa. Un genio artigiano, lo definiscono in molti.

Un’amante del dettaglio, dell’armonia dei pesi e dell’opulenza Vittoriana, dove il ROMANTICISMO regna sovrano.

La mostra è la sintesi del suo pensiero ed è così che si snoda in 6 tematiche, che raccontano la sua carriera eccezionale con circa 100 abiti e 70 accessori, una collezione importante che proveniene dagli archivi personali dell’artista, da quelli della maison Givenchy e da collezioni private come quella di Isabella Blow, sua scopritrice negli anni di studio alla Central Saint Martin. Non mancano i suoi famosi Kimono, i suoi “origami” rendigote e i suoi “bumster” pants, dalla vita bassissima.

Così commenta Andrew Bolton, curatore della mostra che insieme ad Harold Kuba, ha realizzato questo fantastico tributo al grande artista Alexander Mcqueen.

“McQueen è stato un vero romantico nel senso byroniano del termine. Ha saputo interpretare il sublime, quel vortice di bellezza e orrore squadernato soprattutto durante i suoi teatralissimi shows, in cui l’audience veniva provocata da una ridda di emozioni forti e contrastanti-paura, stupore, repulsione”

“The Romantic Mind” è la parte che esamina la sua ingenuità tecnica, che riesce a combinare la precisione per il dettaglio alla ricerca dei tessuti e dei dettagli materici.

“Romantic Gothic” è la sintesi della dicotomia che lo affascinava di più, vita e morte, bene e male. Elementi Vittoriani e gotici rappresentano al meglio il significato che lui ha dato alla vita fatta di forza, di malinconia e terrore.

“Romantic Nationalism” il richiamo patriotico, la Scozia e il suo bagaglio culturale, la storia della terra natia.

“Romantic Exoticism” è l’influenza esotica dei popoli e delle culture lontane come Cina e Giappone, sull’onda dell’immaginazione e della curiosità.

“Romantic Primitivism”, la forza unica e affascinante del tribalismo,della civiltà contro l’inciviltà, la Maestosità Violenta.

“Romantic Naturalism” racchiude la sua costante passione per i materiali grezzi e le forme create dalla Natura.

Molto interessante è la parte chiamata “Cabinet of Curiosities” che raccoglie accessori e capelli creati con l’ausilio di grandi artisti come Dai Reese e il “cappellaio matto” Philipe Treacy. Inoltre in questa sala si mossono ammirare anche gli spettacolari video delle sue sfilate, dei veri e propri spettacoli indimenticabili.

Tutto questo è Savage Beauty. Tutto questo è l’incredibile Alexander Mcqueen.

But what is "Savage Beauty"?
It's the title of an important exhibition dedicated to its stunning works, from May 4 to July 31 will be staged at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

Do not miss its famous Kimono, her "origami" redingote and his "bumster" pants with a very low waist.
Says Andrew Bolton, curator of the exhibition along with Harold Kuba, has created this fantastic tribute to the great artist Alexander McQueen:

"Alexander McQueen was best known for his astonishing and extravagant runway presentations, which were given dramatic scenarios and narrative structures that suggested avant-garde installation and performance art His fashions were an outlet for his emotions, an expression of the deepest, often darkest, aspects of his imagination. He was a true romantic in the Byronic sense of the word – he channeled the sublime."

"The Romantic Mind" is the part that examines its technical ingenuity, which combine the precision of tailoring,research of fabrics and patternmaking. "Romantic Gothic" is a summary of the dichotomy that mostly fascinates him, life and death, good and evil. Victorian and Gothic elements best represent the meaning he gave to the life of strength, melancholy and terror. "Romantic Nationalism" patriotic calling, Scotland and its cultural heritage, the history of the homeland. "Romantic exoticism" is the influence of exotic peoples and cultures as far away as China and Japan in the wake of imagination and curiosity. "Romantic Primitivism", a unique and fascinating force of tribalism, of civilization against barbarism and the “noble savage”"Romantic Naturalism" includes his continuing passion for raw materials and nature’s shapes.
Very interesting is the part of "Cabinet of Curiosities", which are collected accessories, hats made with the help of great artists such as Dai Rees and the "mad hatter” Philip Treacy. Also in this room moved to admire the spectacular fashion show’s video, some real breathtaking.
